why we love twists
Twists can be done on all hair types. Whether your hair is kinky, coily, curly, wavy, straight, or chemically-treated, you can do twists on your hair. People with straight or chemically-treated hair might consider wearing their twists in buns or updos so that their twists will remain intact. Plus, buns and updos are great protective styles. After all, you must protect those ends if you want to retain your length. Twists are great because they can be worn for weeks.
Twists can be created using pomade. The Pomade Shop recommends its Sweet Indulgence Hair Styler. Its smooth buttery consistency and nourishing ingredients like avocado and wheat germ oils aid in creating soft, well-defined twists. After washing your hair, apply the Sweet Indulgence Hair Styler and start twisting. Part your hair into sections using the tail part of a rattail comb (The Pomade Shop recommends using a seamless comb to avoid snagging your hair.). Once you have parted your hair into sections, be sure to part the individual sections to avoid borrowing hair while you are doing your twists. Borrowing hair involves continuing to twist by taking hair from one of your sections once the other section (or sections if you are doing three-strand twists) has run out. The act of borrowing hair can lead to tangles and produce frizz if you plan on unraveling your twists for a twist out. You can throw a hair party and practice with friends. Different Things You Can Do
Try the Side Twist, one side or both sides, big or small, with one or two or three twists. It is easily done by pulling the hair back into a ponytail or bun, leaving two one- or two-inch pieces or hair on each side. You can also do a Front Twist. Beginning at your part, separate pieces of hair into two sections. Twist each piece upward horizontally until it is secured well. Remember to apply pomade for hold. Pin the hair in place and repeat on the other side. Once the twists are in place, you should have accomplished a half-up, half- down look. Do the Twisty Twist by using two sections of hair to create a double twist. The technique is similar to braiding, but you only use two locks of hair. When you’re done, you can do ponytails, buns, and updos with your twists. Then you can loosen your twists for a lovely twist out.
